Jackie (Thayer) Russell

Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Joyce Thayer Russell, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2021.  She was born November 30, 1926, in Appalachia, Virginia, to the late Delmar and Frances Thayer.  After leaving home, she married George E. Russell and lived in Florida for many years before moving to Georgia.  She was a former member of Westview Baptist Church in Miami, Florida, and she served as Administrator for Westview Christian School for several years.  She and her husband traveled to many places in the United States, Bahamas, Israel, Mexico, and South America.  After his death, she continued to travel to Canada and again in the U.S., but her favorite place to be was in the mountains of Barnardsville, North Carolina.  She was a member of  Fairview Baptist Church in Lyons, Ladies IN Action, and the Senior Saints.  She loved her church and being with people.  She is preceded in death by her husband, George E. Russell; son, Gary Russell; grandson, Christopher Russell; daughter-in-law, Debbie Russell; siblings, Bob Thayer, Jerry Thayer, and Barbara Halpin; and her best friends, Eva Lee Pittman and Frances Pittman.

Her family includes her children, Joyce O’Brien and husband Bob, George L. Russell, Sr. and wife Karen, all of Florida, and Glenn Russell and wife Sandy of Lyons; grandchildren, George L. Russell, Jr., Cory O’Brien, Colby O’Brien, all of Florida, Stephanie Vanegas and husband Tim of Mississippi, Valerie Mullis and husband Chuck of North Carolina, Dr. Justin E. Russell and wife Ginger, Rebekah Lowe and husband Brandon, and Jordan Russell, all of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Ariel Russell, Devin O’Brien, Ashley Vanegas, Amber Vanegas, Amanda Vanegas, Alyssa Vanegas, Russell Mullis, Hannah Mullis, Luke Mullis, Kennedy Braucht, Glendon Russell, and Micah Lowe; great-great-granddaughter Adley, to be born soon; one sister, Carolyn Cunningham and husband Martin of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and a special niece, Patti Thayer.

The funeral service will be Thursday, November 11th, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Brother Glenn E. Russell, Dr. Justin E. Russell and Brother Chuck Mullis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
