Jack Hamilton Obituary

Master Sergeant Jack Hamilton, USAR, age 91, of Lyons, died Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following an extended illness.  He was a native of the Kibbee Community in Montgomery County and attended Kibbee School.  He lived in Columbia County for ten years after a two-year tour in Germany and moved to Montgomery County in 1973 then later to Toombs County.  He retired after twenty-six years as Master Sergeant, and he was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War.  After his retirement from military service, he worked as a meat cutter in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and in Baxley.  He worked with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department for ten years, and more recently worked at the Toombs County Convenient Center in Normantown.  He was Baptist by faith, and he enjoyed fishing, yard work, woodworking, gardening, and sitting on the porch in his swing.  He is preceded in death by two sons, Randy Hamilton and Michael Hamilton, stepson Frank J. Smith; his parents, Arthur Lee Hamilton and Elberta Louise Sammons Hamilton; one brother, A. L. Hamilton; and a sister, Doris Hamilton Gutwin. He was the grandson of Charles S. Hamilton and Ruthie Ann Williams of Kibbee.

His family includes four children, Mark Hamilton and wife Teresa of Kibbee, Sharon Hamilton of Aiken, South Carolina, Martina Hanka Smith of Tampa, Florida, and Becca Hamilton Bridges of Santa Claus; stepson, Tommy J. Smith and wife Caty of Lyons; fifteen grandchildren, Caleb Bridges, Carter Bridges, Chris Hamilton and wife Emma, Melissa Isdell O’Bryan and Matthew, Nathan Isdell, Kelly Brewer, Jacob Hamilton, Peyton Smith Perry, Trent Smith, John Smith, George Smith, Alvaro Smith, and Brianna Smith; six great-grandchildren, Haley Isdell, Mattison O'Bryan, Colton O'Bryan, Daklin Hamilton, Reed Hamilton and Sammy Hamilton; and three great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett Mae Caraballo, Ezra Caraballo and Caroline Caraballo.

A graveside funeral service will be Friday afternoon, March 14th at 3:00 at Ruth’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S Army Honor Guard. Pastor Gaynor Ridgdill will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Ruth’s Chapel Cemetery on Friday afternoon from 2:30 until just prior to the service.
