Mr. Jack Dubberly, age 76, of Lyons, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Oxley Park Health and Rehab in Lyons after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was the last of seven children born to Atys and Lila Dubberly. Several years after Jack’s birth, his first cousin, Carol Sue, joined the family after her mother died in childbirth becoming his youngest sister. Jack grew up in the flatwoods of Tattnall County near the Altamaha River. He attended Tyson School in grades 1-8 and later graduated from Glennville High School in 1968. In 1969, Jack married Linda Durrence, and they had two children, Tracey in 1970 and Jason in 1975. Shortly after Jack’s 50th birthday, his only grandchild Blake was born in 1998.
Jack began his career at Georgia State Prison as a correctional officer in 1969 and retired in 1997 after 28 years of dedicated service. In 1991, he married Libby Newton and moved to Toombs County. Jack was truly a “jack of all trades” – carpenter, plumber, electrician and mechanic. He always used these skills to help others in times of need. He was a dedicated member of Marvin Church. He loved the Lord and was one of God’s most faithful servants. He loved his family and friends and treasured time spent with them. Jack was an avid animal lover who rescued many animals. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association, and he enjoyed gardening, fishing with his grandson and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Pat Dubberly, Dan Dubberly and Reginald Dubberly; four sisters, Virginia Boone, Peggy Fowler, Bonnie Dean Johnson and Carol Sue Burkhalter.
His family includes his wife of thirty-three years, Libby Newton Dubberly; children, Tracy Cowart and husband Shane and Jason Dubberly and wife Kristie; grandson, Blake Dubberly and wife Katie; four great-grandchildren, Willow, Waylon, Gentry and Gatlin Dubberly, several nieces and nephews, and his furbabies, Remi and Hank.
The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, February 22nd at Marvin Church from 2:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 with Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A special thanks to Jack’s caregivers Mary Nunnally, Cathleen Sharpe, Mary Jones, Lenora Mincey, LaShondra Lampkin, Lula Hilbert, and the staff of Oxley Park and Affinis Hospice for their love and kindness.
