Mr. Hugh B. NeeSmith, age 87, of Uvalda, met his Savior on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, surrounded by his family. He was a native of Cedar Crossing, attended Hilldale School, and lived in Cedar Crossing until moving to Uvalda in 1960. Early in his life, he was co-owner of NeeSmith Logging Company, and retired after forty years as a supervisor from Moses Grass Company in Uvalda. He was a charter former member of the Uvalda Church of God where he served as choir director and is a member of New Beginnings Church of God in Lyons. He leaves a legacy of singing and loving the Lord. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, and building dirt track stockcars. He said many years ago, though he raced Chevrolets, “I’d rather have a hubcap from a Ford, than two good-running Chevrolets”.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Craft NeeSmith; son, Keith NeeSmith; parents, Thomas Hilton NeeSmith and Julie Okela Denmark NeeSmith and five siblings.
Mr. NeeSmith is survived by four children, Rhonda NeeSmith, David NeeSmith and wife Telena, Amanda NeeSmith Douberly, and Michelle NeeSmith Wommack, all of Uvalda; son-in-law, Danny Wommack of Cedar Crossing; ten grandchildren, Jason Bradham, Sandy Bradham, Blake NeeSmith and wife Amy, Ashton NeeSmith, Justin NeeSmith and wife Heidi, Taylor Douberly, Danielle Hughes and husband Brandon, Chelsea Wommack and fiancé Josh Colbert, Dylan Wommack and wife Madison, and Keith Allen NeeSmith; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at New Beginning Church of God on Friday evening beginning at 6:00.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 16th, 2026, at 3:00 at New Beginning Church of God with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Crossing Cemetery.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorial donations may be made to New Beginning Church of God, PO Box 838, Lyons, GA 30436.
Pallbearers are Jason Bradham, Dylan Wommack, Blake NeeSmith, Danny Wommack, Justin NeeSmith, Cameron Bradham, Taylor Douberly, Trevor Bradham, and Kelly Douberly.
