Lyons,
Mr. Hugh Powell, age 73, of Lyons, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native of Collins, moved to Toombs County in 1972, and to Lyons twenty-nine years ago. Early in his life he farmed, and was an electrician for the City of Daytona, Florida. He retired after thirty-two years as a correctional officer from Rogers State Prison and the Georgia Forestry Commission, both in Reidsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Powell and Lillie Mae Wilson Powell; and four brothers, Felton Powell, Aaron Powell, Junior Powell, and W.A. Powell.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Becky Phillips Powell; one son, Rodney Powell; one grandson, Jason Powell, both of Lyons; two sisters, Bertie Mae Jernigan and husband Paul of Collins, and Nancy Green of Lyons; two brothers, Tommy Powell and wife Nancy of Jacksonville, Florida, and Chester Powell and wife Pansy of Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 17th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Gordon Tippins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The family will be meeting at Diane Lawler’s home at 1601 Prosperity Court in Vidalia.
