Hugh Fountain Obituary

Mr. Hugh C. Fountain, age 78, of Normantown Community, passed from this life on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Community Hospice House after an extended illness with Parkinson’s disease. He was a native of Montgomery County, moving to Normantown in 1989. Hugh held several jobs over the years at Georgia Machine and Manufacturing, Piggly Wiggly in Vidalia and Lyons, Federal Pacific, as well as several years in the construction industry. He also operated the H & M Livestock Market in Metter, Baxley, and Lyons with his wife and children. He served fourteen years with the Georgia National Guard in Lyons. He enjoyed raising livestock, piddling around his farm and visiting with the grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. Fountain and Elinar Mason Fountain of Tarrytown.

Mr. Fountain is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Myra Calhoun Fountain of Normantown; two daughters, Becky Fountain of Normantown, and Rachel Johnson and husband Jason of Vidalia; one son, Joseph Fountain of Lyons; nine grandchildren, Amanda Williams and husband Justin of Lyons, Sarah Collins of Tarrytown, Taylor Thompson and husband Ken of Reidsville, Olivia Braddock and husband Dakota of Vidalia, Allie Collins and Shelby Collins, both of Lyons, Alyssa Fountain, Auston Fountain and Ashar Johnson, all of Vidalia; five great- grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams, Aubree Thompson, Waylon Thompson, Hank Braddock and Gunner Wilkes; three sisters, Delores Clark and husband Randall of Johnson Corner, Vera Wilt and Shirley King, both of Vidalia; one brother, Carl Fountain and wife Diane of Swainsboro; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, William King, Manning Poole and Tony Collins.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time. Burial will be at a later date.
