Mr. R. Hugh Foskey, age 81, of Uvalda, died Friday, October 1, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Savannah after a battle with Covid. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, and was born on January 3, 1940 in Uvalda, Georgia to the late Rufus and Clyde Foskey. He worked with Globe Manufacturing and Oxford Industries for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, selling produce, and became well known as the “Sweet Potato Man” who drove the red truck from Uvalda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Johnnie Foskey in August; five siblings, Kendall Foskey, Paul Foskey, Hollis Foskey, Elise Davis, and Janelle Foskey Williams.
His family includes two daughters, Debbie Thornton and husband Wayne of Hazlehurst and Janet Adams and husband Bryant of Uvalda; one sister, Reba Yawn and husband Royce of Clermont, Florida; three grandchildren, Paula Driskall and husband Doug, Starla Godwin and husband Daniel, and Joshua Foskey and Hillary, all of Uvalda; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, October 5th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Reece Mincey and Reverend James Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Dead River Cemetery near Uvalda.
Pallbearers are Doug Driskall, Daniel Godwin, Joshua Foskey, Ashton Barwick, Josiah Godwin, and Elijah Godwin.
