Mr. Howard E. “Hootie” Williamson, Sr., age 72, of Vidalia, died Monday, June 29, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Hardeeville, South Carolina and lived there until moving to Vidalia in 1969. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era, served fifteen years in the Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post #97. He retired with the City of Vidalia after thirty-one years and the last twenty-nine years as a firefighter with the Vidalia Fire Department. He was a former member of the Pendleton Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Lyons. He founded the Vidalia-Toombs Bicycling Association, and he enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne Williamson and Daisy Marie Terry Williamson; and one brother, Kelly Williamson.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Shelby Tootle Williamson; two children, Debra Williamson Kight and husband Kurt of Vidalia, and Howard Eugene Williamson, Jr. and wife Laura Beth of Higgston;
three brothers, Joe Williamson and wife Cathy of McArthur, Oklahoma, George Williamson, and Mark Williamson and wife Debbie, all of Normantown; seven grandchildren, Tyler Roberts, Jake Kight, Landon Williamson, Tucker Roberts, Allie Kight, Marie Hope Williamson and Ryleigh Beth Williamson; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Plowman and Reverend Frank Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Pendleton Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 until just prior to the service.
