Hershel Lee Newlin, Sr.

Mr. Hershel Lee Newlin, Sr., age 51, of Uvalda, died Thursday, August 21, 2025, at his home after a sudden illness.  He was a native of Orlando, Florida and had lived in Illinois, Glenwood and Soperton for several years.  In 1984, he moved to Mt. Vernon before eventually settling in Uvalda seven years ago. He attended Toombs County High School and had worked as a dry wall installer for the past thirty-one years. Hershel enjoyed deer hunting, eating, and working with his hands, but he especially loved spending time with his friends and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Lee Newlin and Dorothy Evelyn Standbridge Newlin.

His family includes his wife, Michelle Newlin of Anniston, Alabama; three children, Stephanie Newlin-Steptoe and husband Michael of Swainsboro, Hershel Lee Newlin, Jr. and fiancé Vanna of Uvalda, and Destinie Newlin of Swainsboro; faithful companion, Sherrill West of Uvalda; one sister, Victoria Conner of Mt. Vernon; one stepbrother, Terry Lee Newton, Jr. and wife Katie of Smyrna, Tennessee; two stepsisters, Anna Dodson and husband Mike, and Crystal Newlin all of Orlando, Florida; one grandson, Dakota Lee Newlin and a granddaughter to be born in September; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no service.
