Herman F. "Bo" Meeks Obituary

Mr. Herman F. “Bo” Meeks, age 74, of the Center Community, died Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. He was born on January 16, 1951 in Lyons, to the late Carlos Lamar Meeks and Evelyn Farmer Meeks. He lived in Toombs County and the Center Community most of his life and nine years in Brunswick. He was a 1969 graduate of Lyons High School where he played football and won a national award in Chattanooga, Tennessee in DECA in Public Speaking. At the age of sixteen, he began a career in the grocery business as a bagboy at Piggly Wiggly, ultimately becoming store manager, and worked there twenty years. Later, he worked at Food Lion in Vidalia as store manager for ten years and more recently with Durden Kaufold Rice & Barfield PC for ten years. He was Baptist by faith, and he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and going to the beach, as he was an avid seashell collector.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Meeks Copeland, Margie Meeks Hester, and Mary Meeks Hansil; and one brother, Jimmy Meeks.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Betty Dykes Meeks of Center; four sisters, Eloise Meeks Atkinson of Warner Robins, Mildred Meeks Tomlinson and husband Woody of Vidalia, Jane Meeks McLendon of Lyons, Annette Meeks Van Gartzen of Brunswick, two brothers, Lamar Meeks and wife Virginia of Statesboro, and Buddy Meeks of Lyons; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Dykes Brantley of Cedar Crossing; one brother-in-law, Bobby Dykes of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning, September 23rd, 2025, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Owen Waters officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
