Mrs. Helen B. Walker, age 83, of Higgston, died Monday, August 19, 2024, at her daughter’s home, following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, living near Higgston most of her life. She retired from Ailey Manufacturing Company after forty-five years. She was a charter member of the Uvalda Church of God, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, and gospel music. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, H.L. “Red” Walker, Sr.; son, Henry L. Walker, Jr.; an infant, daughter, Charlotte Elaine Walker; granddaughter, April Loyd; parents, Charles Preston Bailey and Helen Marie Brantley Bailey; and eight siblings, Opal, Loney, Ann, Joyce, Milo, Bill, Bobby, and Walter.
Her family includes three children, Diann Clark, Vivian Ann Harrell and husband Ricky, all of Higgston, Darrell Walker and wife April of Sardis, and Leslie Wheeler and husband Curt of Mt. Vernon; one brother, James Bailey of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Frank Loyd and Jennifer Durrence, Christopher Horton and wife Hannah, Preston Walker and wife Michelle, Jacob Walker and Amber Morgan, Christopher Walker, Destiny Hodge and Zack Lucas, Gavin Walker, Emily Walker, Allison Walker, and Leslie Wheeler; fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren to be born soon, and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Friday morning, August 23rd, at 11:00 at the Uvalda Church of God with Pastor Alvin Merritt, Pastor Frank Barfield, and Pastor Jeremy Deloach officiating. Burial will follow at Ferguson Cemetery.
