Harriette Fuerst Obituary

Mrs. Harriette Elaine Fuerst, age 83, of Vidalia, Georgia, died Friday, June 26, 2020, at her home after an extended illness.  She was born and reared in Woonsocket, South Dakota and lived in Wessington Springs, South Dakota most of her life.  Also, she lived in Burke, South Dakota, and she and her late husband were in motel management in Nebraska and South Dakota. She later moved to Vidalia in 2017.  She worked as a secretary for the Gregory County, SD Sheriff’s Office for several years and was Lutheran by faith.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmore “Jeff” Fred Fuerst; a son, Tom Fuerst; a great-grandson, Bradyn; and her parents, Burr Decker and Martha Decker Thomas.

Mrs. Fuerst is survived by one son, David Fuerst and Greg May of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Tom Fuerst and wife Cassie of Memphis, Tennessee, Michelle Fuerst, Tim Fuerst and wife Ashley, and Travis Fuerst and wife Jordan, all of Jefferson City, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and many special friends throughout her life, including Merle Suratt and Linda Rountree.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota with Pastor Tom Fuerst officiating.
