H. Eugene "Gene" Joyner

Mr. H. Eugene “Gene”  Joyner, age 78, of Lyons, died Friday, March 27, 2020, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was a native of the New Branch Community and lived in Lyons most of his life.  Early in his life, he was a sign painter for sixteen years and since 1974, was a self-employed builder.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons and the Men’s Improvement Club, and also he attended Sharpe’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Lyons.  He was an artist and was fascinated with God’s creation of the Universe; and Mr. Joyner was a well-known humorist.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Felton Joyner and Myrtle Holland Joyner; two sisters, Nettie Ruth Joyner Stripling and an infant sister, Gertie Blanche Joyner and one brother, Tommy DeWayne Joyner.

Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Deane Morris Joyner of Lyons; three children, Pacer Joyner and wife Belinda of Lyons, Deidre Joyner Sikes and husband Brice of Statesboro, and Jeremy Joyner and wife Amber of Lyons; three brothers, Larry Joyner and Cecil Joyner and wife Patsy, all of Lyons, and Jimmy Joyner of Soperton; one sister, Bonnie Van Dyke  of Lyons; five grandchildren, Cameron Joyner and Amber of Juliette, Chelsea Alumbaugh and husband Brice of Rydal, Hannah Sikes of Statesboro, Madalyn Joyner and Anna Kate Joyner of Lyons; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, March 30th, at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Reverend David Blalock, Reverend Richard Barnard and Cameron Joyner officiating.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the summer at Partin Park in Lyons.
