Gregory "Ted" Hutcheson

Mr. Gregory “Ted” Hutcheson, age 63, of Emanuel County near Lyons, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, following an extended illness. He was born in Macon and lived in the Vidalia and Lyons areas most of his life. He was a 1980 graduate of Lyons Senior High School. Ted worked eight years as a correctional officer at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville and two years in security at Plant Vogtle. He was formerly Captain of Security at Edwin I. Hatch Plant, working twenty-one years, security with Total Protection Services in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an over the road truck driver at DOT Foods in Vidalia for eight years. He was a member of the Vidalia Advent Christian Church; and he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, boating, cooking, coaching with the recreation department, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis James “L.J.” Hutcheson and Joan Beasley Hutcheson.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Collins Hutcheson; one son, John Wesley Hutcheson, and wife Maddie, all of Lyons; one daughter, Stephanie H. Miranda of North Augusta, South Carolina; eight siblings, Cherry Hughes and husband Seab, Vickie Messex, Bridgett Clifton and husband Rodney, all of Vidalia, Jay Hutcheson and wife Sharon of the South Thompson Community, Stacey Hutcheson and wife Sandra, Chad Hutcheson and wife Melissa, Clint Hutcheson and wife Candace, all of Oak Park, and Travis Hutcheson and wife Angela of Monroe, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Anna Lynn Hutcheson, Grady John Hutcheson, Jeb Wesley Hutcheson, Mavery Leigh Palma, and Samuel William Miranda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Vidalia Advent Christian Church on Tuesday evening, October 7th, from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, October 8th, 2025, at 11:00 at Vidalia Advent Christian Church, 250 Marshall Pittman Road, Vidalia.  Pastor Clint Hutcheson and Pastor Travis Hutcheson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hutcheson Cemetery in Treutlen County.
