Mrs. Grace Coleman Cowart, age 83, of the Center Community, died Friday, May 30, 2025, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons following an extended illness. She was a native of Treutlen County, living there and in the Center Community in Toombs County all of her life. She was a 1960 graduate of Oak Park High School, a homemaker and a member of Center Church. She enjoyed cooking, word search, reading romance novels, watching Days of Our Lives, talking, bananas, and Banana Moon Pies. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Dempsey Cowart; three children, Nancy Jean Cowart McNure, Tony Cowart, and an infant son, Jack Cowart; parents, John Henry Coleman, Sr. and Linda Salome “Lindy” Foskey Coleman; and four siblings, Ruby Lee Coleman Humphrey, Bonnie Ree Coleman Mosley, Randall Coleman, and John Henry Coleman, Jr.
Her family includes one son, David “Bird Dog” Cowart of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Melissa Cowart Jenkins and husband Curtis of Johnson Corner, Shonda McNure Deloach and husband Roger of Long County, and Bobby “Mac” McNure of Johnson Corner; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Morgan and husband Josh, Kameron McNure, McKenzie McNure, and Ryan Jenkins and wife Elizabeth; two great-great-grandchildren, Nolan Jenkins and Waylon Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
A graveside funeral service will be Tuesday morning, June 3rd, 2025, at 11:00 at Old Mt. Zion Cemetery with Pastor Curt Tootle officiating.
