Gerald Norris Atkinson

Mr. Gerald Norris Atkinson, age 74, of Newnan, died Monday, July 28, 2025, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Treutlen County, attended Zaidee Advent Christian Church and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1968.  After high school, Gerald served two years in the U.S. Marines and was stationed at Guantanamo, Cuba. He worked in various jobs in the cable industry, including Kennedy Cable and Ansco Cable, and in 2008 co-founded Witt Utility Construction Company in Newnan. He was a member of Welcome Road Baptist Church in Newnan. He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed his dogs, especially his dog Sandy.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Atkinson; parents, Floyd U. Atkinson, Sr. and Daisy Herndon Atkinson; brother, Floyd U. Atkinson, Jr. and former wife, Donna Brown Atkinson.

He is survived by two children, Alicia N. Atkinson of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, and Adam N. Atkinson and wife Felisha of Texas; one brother, Jerry T. Atkinson and wife Marston of McDonough; one sister-in-law, Lexie Johnson of Eatonton; two stepchildren, Phil Northcutt  and Tammy Stover, both of Newnan; one granddaughter, Haven Darnell and husband Joe; two great-grandchildren, Everleigh Darnell and Grayden Darnell, all of Gray Court, South Carolina; one step-granddaughter, Mandy Stover and husband Mark of Newnan; two step-great-grandchildren, Deanna Roberts, and Austin Stover and wife Mandi; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including two nieces, Emily M. Atkinson and Erin Floyd and husband Ben.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 2nd, 2025, at 3:00 at Zaidee Advent Christian Church with Pastor John Herndon and Pastor M.L. Barber officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
