Mr. George William Raiford, 68, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at his home with family and loved ones by his side. George was born in Vidalia on January 27, 1953, to Philip and Augustina Infanzon Raiford. He was a graduate of Vidalia High School and played on the 1969 State Championship Football team. He continued his education at the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor’s degree in General Business. After graduating, he returned to Vidalia to work for a family business but he also enjoyed farming and loved breeding and showing Paint Horses. He spent his final years watching the sunrise on St. Simons with his dogs, Button and Trixie, at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Sherry Raiford, his brother Joseph Raiford, and father Phil Raiford.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Raiford and his wife Laura of Greenville, South Caroliana, Jacob Raiford of Vidalia, and a daughter Mattie Raiford of Rochester, New York who lovingly oversaw his care in his final days. He is also survived by his loving mother, Augustina Raiford of Vidalia, two brothers Steve Raiford of Vidalia, and Frank Raiford and his wife Melanie of Athens; one granddaughter, Anica Raiford and a grandson, Grayson Raiford.
A graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, July 21st, at 10:00 a.m. in the Pinecrest Cemetery with Bob Dixon officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Wednesday morning from 9:30 until just prior to service.
