Genell (Thigpen) Morris

Mrs. Genell Thigpen Morris, age 79, of Cedar Crossing, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. She was born in Toombs County on December 3, 1946, to the late Hubert T. Thigpen and Bonnie Lucile Ford Thigpen.  She was a 1965 graduate of Toombs Central School and lived in Toombs County all of her life. She worked with Oxford Industries, and later with Doctors Everett Barfield and George Merritt until retiring after fifteen years from the Toombs County School System. She was a member of New Corinth Baptist Church. Genell enjoyed growing flowers, cooking, vegetable gardening, and spending time with her family, friends, and church family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband Bobby Gene Morris in 2006.

Mrs. Morris is survived by two children, Darrell Morris and Pam Morris McDonald; one grandson, Lee McDonald, all of Cedar Crossing; two sisters, Shirley Thigpen Riner of Swainsboro, and Faye Thigpen Patrick and husband Lewis of Vidalia; a long-time special friend, Leila “Maude” Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, June 20th, 2026, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with her nephew, Pastor Brian Patrick, Bishop Gilbert Wommack, and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
