Gene R. Rogers

Mr. Gene R. Rogers, Sr., age 78, of Lyons, died Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at his home, after an extended illness.  He was born in Waycross, living in Jacksonville, Florida, Alaska and Savannah, before moving to Lyons in 1971.  Early in his life, he worked with Grumman Aircraft in Savannah, CSX Railroad and founded G & T Paint and Body in 1976.  He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia and was member of Faith Baptist Church in Santa Claus.  He enjoyed yard work, sketching and drawing.  He was preceded in death by a son, Gene R. Rogers, Jr.; parents, Ira Bradford Rogers and Pearl Elizabeth Blackburn Rogers; and three brothers, Bill Rogers, Frank Rogers and Clinton Rogers.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Joyce Brewton Rogers of Lyons; four children, Cindy Burton and husband Herbert of Lyons, Wanda Rogers Deen and husband Mark of Vidalia, Tony Rogers of Lyons, and Ginger Rogers Maddox and husband Clay of Forsyth; three sisters, Grace Omar of Lyons, and Margaret Sikes and husband Max and Wanda Rogers, all of Cobbtown; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, June 4th, at 11:00 a.m. in Pinecrest Cemetery with Pastor Andy Williams officiating.
