Mr. Gene Stanley, age 82, of the Marvin Yancey Community, died Friday, October 11, 2024, at Meadows Hospital Meadows Health, after a brief illness. He was a native of Toombs County and lived in New Branch and Marvin Yancey Communities all of his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Lyons High School. He farmed most of his life, worked with the Toombs County Board of Education as a school bus driver, retired after many years from the Georgia Department of Corrections at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville, and more recently worked at Wal-Mart in Vidalia for fifteen years. He attended Marvin Church, and he enjoyed going to Roxy’s Diner to see his friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Currie Frost Stanley; parents, Fredrick “Freddy Stanley and Mary T. Davis Stanley; and brother-in-law, T.J. Calhoun.
His family includes two children, Stacy E. Stanley and wife Alicia of Johnson Corner, and Stephanie Stanley Allen and husband Taylor of the Modoc Community in Emanuel County; four grandchildren, Austin Woods and Reagan Woods of Modoc, and Alayna Stanley and Aden Stanley of Johnson Corner; one sister, Lavonne Stanley Calhoun of Warner Robins, and two nephews.
The funeral service will be Sunday, October 13th, 2024, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Austin Woods, Aden Stanley, Brian Calhoun, Britt Calhoun, Kenton Frost, and Kendall Partin.
