Mr. Fred A. Murray, age 86, of Vidalia, died Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his home. He was born in Glenmore, Georgia in Ware County on July 31, 1938. He was a 1956 graduate of Axson High School and had made Vidalia his home since 1965. Fred served in the United States Army for two years, stationed in Korea. After his time in the service, he began his career as a truck driver. He would eventually retire from truck driving after an impressive forty-five year career. Fred was a member of the Cedar Crossing Masonic Lodge #302, as well as the Alee Shrine, Scottish Rite and York Rite. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia, and he enjoyed fishing, watching television, especially NASCAR, and working in the yard. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolphus Olen Murray and Maggie Wilson Murray; two brothers and three sisters.
His family includes his wife of sixty-three years, Bonnie C. Murray of Vidalia; one daughter, Kathy Phillips and husband Glenn of Vidalia; two granddaughters, Jennifer Phillips of Vidalia and Jessica Phillips of Lyons; two great-granddaughters, Macy Strickland of Vidalia and Ariel Sikes of Cleveland, Tennessee; one great-grandson, Bryton Sikes of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, October 6th, at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home from 1:00 until 3:00.
The graveside service will be Monday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Axson Evangelistic Church Cemetery, 520 Fiddlers Green Rd, Axson, GA 31624, in Atkinson County.
