Evie Dell Wilkes Obituary

Mrs. Evie Dell Poole Wilkes, age 93, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Treutlen County and lived in Toombs County most of her life.  She was a union certified welder, and worked in the Savannah Ship Yard in support of World War II effort.  She retired from Stanley-Blacker in Vidalia after thirty-five years.  She was a member of Holton’s Chapel Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Wilkes; parents, Hyman Poole and Lizzie Brown Poole; and seven siblings, Josie Thompson, Lester Poole, Lanier Poole, Joe Poole, Madie White, Elizabeth Douglas and Ronella Boyette.

Mrs. Wilkes is survived by one son, Bobby Poole of Vidalia; one sister, Martha J. Love and husband Edward of Soperton; one grandson, B.J. Poole and wife Whitney of Gray’s Landing; three great-granddaughters, Brailey, Brooke and Brynlee Poole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Shady Cemetery from 1:00 until just prior to the service.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, September 18th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Shady Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Richard Barnard officiating.
