Mrs. Evelyn H. Carroll, age 79, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was born in Mississippi, living in several places throughout her childhood, including McCormick, South Carolina that she spoke of fondly. She lived in Vidalia most of her life and was a 1964 graduate of Vidalia High School. She was a bookkeeper for the family business, Carroll Brothers Construction and with attorneys Bill Darby, Reid Thelkeld, Charles Andrew, Wilson Smith, and M.O. Strickland. She also worked at Robert Toombs Christian Academy in the lunchroom and at Paul Anderson Youth Home. She was an animal lover, especially her dogs and cats. She was very devoted to her family and their needs.
She is preceded in death by her father, Linton Dorsey Hobbs; mother, Imogene “Patricia” Whitten Gravely; two brothers, Mike Hobbs and Jimmy Hobbs; and sister, Diane Gravely.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Dick Carroll of Vidalia; two children, Jim Carroll and wife Teresa of the English Eddy Community, and Kelley Carroll Brown and husband “Buck” of the Blue Ridge Community; seven grandchildren, Delany Boyette and husband Dillon of Tarrytown, John Morgan Carroll and wife Kylie of Vidalia, Tyler Moore of Lyons, Jaden Carroll and wife Rebecca of Dublin, Jordan Moore of Mt. Vernon, Jimma Carroll of English Eddy, and Riley Brown of Ellabell; seven great-grandchildren, a great-grandson to be born in January; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral was held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 at North Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with her grandson, Jaden Carroll officiating.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, November 15th, 2025, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.
