Mrs. Ethelyn Levy McKenzie, age 88, of Vidalia, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons, under the care of Affinis Hospice, after an extended illness. She was born May 28, 1935, in Vidalia, to the late Leon A. Levy and Margaret Wise Levy. She was a 1953 graduate of Vidalia High School where she was active in school clubs and was a cheerleader. Ethelyn moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1962, and while there, she worked for Montgomery Communications. In 1980, she and her husband returned to Vidalia. In the years following, she was an administrative assistant at Piggly Wiggly Southern and was affectionately known as “one of the pig girls”. Later, she would join the Care One team as their receptionist.
Ethelyn lived her life as a faithful Christian, always finding strength and guidance in her unwavering belief in and love for the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and dedicated herself to serving as Sunday school teacher to young children and adults for numerous years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, W. Max McKenzie, Sr.; daughter, Teri McKenzie Seay; grandson, Blake Seay; and sister, Jeanine Levy Pray.
She is survived by two sons, Max McKenzie, Jr. and wife Linda of Vidalia, and Mark McKenzie and wife Tammy of Oneonta, Alabama; five grandchildren, Brandon McKenzie, Justin McKenzie, Xandria McKenzie-Wilson, Hunter Atkinson, and Chris McKenzie; her sister, Ann Shipes and husband Denny; brother-in-law, Glen McKenzie and wife Geraldine; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Saturday morning, November 18th, from 10:00 until just prior to a memorial service at 11:00 with Randy McDuffie officiating.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Oxley Park staff and Affinis Hospice staff for their compassionate care they provided to Ethelyn during her time at Oxley Park.
