Emson E. Smith Obituary

Mr. Emson E. Smith, age 90, of Vidalia, died Friday, April 10, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness.  He was a native of Colmesneil, Texas, a 1947 graduate of Colmesneil High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Houston.  He served in the in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era and was a member of the Vidalia Kiwanis Club.  He lived in Houston, Texas for thirty-five years, retired as an accountant from Gulf Oil Corporation before moving to Vidalia in 1987.  He was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class where he formerly taught.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Emson Smith and Fay Day Smith; two sisters, Alice Shirley and Treva Smith; a brother, Charles R. Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Jaunice F. Smith; one daughter, Karon S. Durden and husband Glenn all of Vidalia; two sons, Frank D. Smith and wife Robyn of Canton, and Glenn E. Smith and wife Sue Jin of Pembroke; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be to Vidalia Heritage Academy, P.O. 2005, Vidalia, GA 30475 or the Cornerstone Children’s Academy, 209 Church St., Vidalia, GA 30474.

A private family service will be held on Monday with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
