Mrs. Ellen Toler Thompson, age 86, of Ailey, died Wednesday, January 29, 2020, in The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Montgomery County, growing up in Tarrytown and has lived in Ailey since 1951. She was a homemaker and was an avid bridge player. She was a member of the Ailey Baptist Church where she also taught the Adult Sunday School Class for numerous years and was formerly active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Thompson, Sr.; a son, Ned Thompson, Jr.; parents, Charlie Toler and Mary Ellen Calhoun Toler; and a brother, Sebring Toler.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by two children, Sylvia Harper and husband John of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and Herschel Thompson and wife Sheryl of Ailey; one daughter-in-law, Latrelle Thompson of Glenwood; three grandchildren, Jason, Alicia and Tanya; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 11:00 a.m. in the Glenn J. Thompson Cemetery with Reverend Curtis Beaird officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
