Edward "T-Bone" Smith Obituary

Mr. Edward Otis “T-Bone” Smith, age 87, of Lyons, died Monday, April 18, 2022, at his home after a brief illness.  He was a native of Lyons, and was a 1954 graduate of Lyons High School where he played halfback for the Bulldogs.  He moved to Atlanta where he earned his certification for Tool and Die, and in 1959 moved to Brunswick where met his future bride.  Later, he moved to St. Mary’s and was owner/operator of Smith Tool and Die, before returning to Lyons in 1973.  In 1983, he moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and then retired to Lyons in 1996.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, which he dearly loved, a member of John Durst Sunday School Class, and played church Santa Claus for several years.  He enjoyed golf, woodworking and people.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Lee Otis Smith and Queen Hughes Smith; and two brothers, Daniel L. Smith and Jack W. Smith.

His family includes his wife of sixty-two years, LaWana Cook Smith of Lyons; two children, Chris Edward Smith of Lyons, and Catherine Elizabeth Smith Clayton and husband Michael of Columbia, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Chelsey Clayton and fiancé Eric Fitzsimmons, Scarlett Clayton Collins and husband Buford, and Michael William Dean Clayton; one great-grandson, Colton Clayton Stuckey, all of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Clara Dean Helms of Lyons; several nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Sam NeSmith.

The funeral service will be Friday, April 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Pastor Randall Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church of Lyons from 9:00 a.m. until just prior to the service.
