Eddie Powell Obituary

Mr. Eddie Mac Powell, age 71, of Oak Park, died Saturday, May 24, 2020, in Memorial Health in Savannah, after a brief illness.  He was born in Tampa, Florida, on July 12, 1948, lived in Jacksonville, Florida most of his life and moved to Oak Park in 2010.  He was a 1966 graduate of Ribault High School in Jacksonville and in 1974 earned an Associate Degree from Florida Community College.   In 1966, Mr. Powell joined the U.S. Air Force, served in Vietnam and was stationed in West Pakistan in the Air Force Security Service.  He was an electrician, a member of the IBEW Union #177, was an instructor for the NJATC Apprenticeship Committee and president of ASA in Jacksonville.  He was vice-president of White Electrical Company.  Eddie enjoyed golf and was an excellent craftsman.  He was an avid softball player and member of the Softball Players Association, Florida Half Century Amateur Softball Association, Independent Softball Association and Senior Softball-USA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Amerson Powell and Edgerton McRae Powell; one sister, Peggy Lewis; and five brothers, Bobby Conner, Jimmy Powell, Ronnie Powell, A.L. Powell and Coron Powell.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Barbara Jean Powell of Oak Park; three children, Jennifer Gunter and husband James, Eric Powell and wife BJ of Callahan, Florida, and Edward Villarreal of Dallas, Texas; three step-children, Kim Worthon and husband Britt of Winston, Sonya Dutton and husband Jeff of Villa Rica, and Greg King and wife Carlie of Winston; one sister, Sandra Joy Holt; six grandchildren, Jamie Gunter and Joey Johns of Oak Park, Ethan Powell and Faith Powell of Callahan, and Pauline Villarreal and Jacob Villarreal of Dallas; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Powell will be held at a later date.        

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society, P.O. Box 210, Vidalia, GA 30475.
