Don "Little Champ" Thompson

Mr. Don C. “Little Champ” Thompson, age 74, of Lyons, died Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Meadows Health in Vidalia after an extended illness.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Lyons and was a 1965 graduate of Lyons High School.  He and his father operated Roy Thompson Logging for many years, and he later retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a truck driver.  He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, and he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, shrimping, hunting, and cooking.  He is preceded in death by his parents Roy Cleon Thompson and Rachel Oliff Rountree Thompson.

Survivors include two children, Matt Thompson and wife Pok of Hinesville and Jennifer Thompson Burns and husband Tren of Lyons; former wife, Ina Dell; two sisters, Beverly Thompson of Claxton and Tiffany Thompson Dixon and husband Jack of Warner Robbins; two granddaughters, Allison Elizabeth Burns and Abbi Burns, both of Lyons; one nephew, T.J. Dixon and one niece, Rachael Dixon.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until just prior to the service.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 27th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Mosley officiating.  Burial will follow in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
