Dewitt "Rusty" Powell

Mr. Dewitt “Rusty” Powell, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Memorial Health in Savannah after a brief illness.  He was a native of Montgomery County and lived in Mt. Vernon most of his life.  He was a retired truck driver, working with Reaves Construction Company in Mt. Vernon for many years.  After retiring, he worked with the City of Mt. Vernon.  He attended Lott’s Creek Church of God, and he enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Dewitt Powell and Annie Myrtle Mercer Powell; sister, Libby Parrish; and niece, Suzie Gonzalez.

His family includes his wife of sixty-six years, Delories Faircloth Powell of Mt. Vernon; two children, Christian Powell of Mt. Vernon and Victoria Powell and Marty Williams of Cedar Crossing; one grandson, Christopher Powell of Glenwood; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.

The funeral service will be Sunday afternoon, July 20th at 2:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with David Gonzalez and Jose Gonzalez officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.  

Pallbearers are David Gonzalez, Andy Gonzalez, Julia Gonzalez, Kevin Mathis, Justin Meacham, and Dusty Lyles.
