Mr. Dewayne “Coon” Calhoun, age 59, of Lyons, died Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Lyons and a 1980 graduate of Lyons Senior High School. He worked for more than twenty years at Piggly Wiggly Southern Warehouse, later at Robin Builders, DOT Foods and was currently employed at Trane. He was best known for coaching and umpiring at the Lyons Recreation Department with Coach Anson Calloway. He enjoyed fishing, sports, and playing softball and football. He is preceded in death by his wife, April Usher Calhoun; his mother, Faye Cauley Clifton; and sister, Cindy Calhoun Olivarez.
Survivors include two daughters, Jessica Calhoun and Holly Calhoun; his father, Wayne Calhoun and wife Darty, all of Lyons; five grandchildren, Trayvone Harris, Cameron Harris, Kaleigha and Aprella Bellevue, and Jaynae Calhoun; two nieces, Amanda McCloud and Sarah Rodriguez; and nephew, Jonathan Olivarez.
An opportunity for friends to pay their respects on Saturday, March 27th, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A private family service will be on Sunday, March 28th, the chapel at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
