Curtis Vaughn

Mr. Curtis Vaughn, age 94, of Lyons, died Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. He was a native of Emanuel County and grew up in the Pendleton Springs Community. He was a graduate of Oak Park High School, Class of 1948 and later moved to Lyons where he lived most of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. Mr. Vaughn was in sales most of his life, working at Brice Wholesale and ChooChoo Supply for thirty-six years. He was a lifelong member of Olney Primitive Baptist Church in Oak Park where he served as a deacon most of his life and church clerk since 1987. He enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lola Brown Vaughn; parents, Elmer Eugene Vaughn and his birth mother who died when he was four years old, Tyra Perry Vaughn; and his mother who raised him, Cellie Morris Vaughn; one brother, Calvin Vaughn; and three sisters, Savilla Vaughn Taylor, Karen Vaughn Connell, and Faye Mosley Garrett.

He is survived by two children, Dudley Vaughn and wife Beverly of Newnan, and Tyra Vaughn Burkhalter and husband Gregg of Lyons; two grandchildren, Kyle Vaughn of Senoia and Amy Bowers and husband Thomas of Vidalia; two great-grandchildren, Justin Bowers and Maggie Bowers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Olney Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday afternoon, September 13, 2025, from 12:30 until just prior to the funeral service at 2:00. Elder Bill Durrence and Kirk Cavanah will officiate. Interment will follow at Lyons City Cemetery with Military Honors.
