Mr. Cromwell “Stoney” Stone, age 81, of Lyons, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Meadows Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. He was a native of Ridge Spring, South Carolina and moved to Toombs County in 2006. He served five years in the United States Air Force in the Aircraft Fuels Division. Mr. Stone worked in the nuclear energy industry for 25 years. He retired from Southern Nuclear Company at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant in 2003. He was a member of Lyons First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Stone and Elise Boatright Stone; brothers, Garvin and J.B. Stone; sister, Lois Stone Watkins; and his parents-in-law, W.T. Rollins and Eula Mae Lott Rollins.
Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Angela Rollins Stone of Lyons; two sons, Britt Stone and wife Christina of Aiken, South Carolina, and Matt Stone and wife Dana of Gainesville, Florida; six grandchildren, Kristin Stone, Britton Stone, Jr. and wife Taylor, John Stone, Casey Berry and wife Jolie, Giobann Stone, Malakee Stone, two great-grandchildren, Carter Stone and Sadie Stone; three brothers-in-law, Tommy Rollins and wife Becky, Randy Rollins and wife Cynthia, all of Lyons, and Ronnie Rollins and wife Sherri of Gray, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be Friday afternoon, July 11th, 2025, at 3:00 at South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tommy Rollins, Randy Rollins, Ronnie Rollins, Britton Stone, John Stone, and Betsy Rollins.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make memorial donations the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting their website at donorservices.alz.org or to your favorite charity.
Thank you to the staff at Azalea Park Health & Rehab, Oxley Park Health & Rehab, and Meadows Park Health & Rehab for the care they provided us when Cromwell was a resident. We would also like to thank those at Affinis Hospice for the loving care they provided during his journey to his Heavenly home.
