Claudia Moxley Obituary

Claudia Janice Moxley, age 73, of Vidalia, died Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah following an extended illness. She was born in Lyons, grew up in Miami, Florida and graduated high school there in 1970. She lived in California for a few years, living in Savannah and in Ellabell for twenty-five years before moving to Vidalia in 2018. She worked in the family business, M-5, Inc. for many years and later worked in the tobacco industry in southeast Georgia. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Kibbee. She enjoyed shopping, her dog Peaches, flowers, and giving her family gifts at Christmas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Thornton; parents, James Paul Moxley and Tyra Powell Moxley; three grandchildren, Taylin Keyes, Raelynn Keyes and Payton Keyes; three brothers, Dale Moxley and wife Phyllis Moxley, Mark Moxley, and Tim Moxley and wife Barbara Moxley; a daughter-in-law, Skye Keyes; and nephew, Kevin O'Neal.

She is survived by three children, Christine Thornton Ahmay and husband Michael of Fountain, Colorado, Brian Todd Keyes of Springfield, and Sheila Thornton Waters and husband James “Chip” of Ellabell; one brother, Todd Moxley of Vidalia; two sisters, Della Moxley O’Neal and husband Bill of Cedar Crossing and Kimberly Moxley Register and husband William Register of Vidalia; nine grandchildren, Michael Ahmay, Christopher Ahmay, Heaven Ahmay, Colton Keyes, Caiden Keyes, Jaxton Keyes, Ciera Smith, Tommy Thornton, and Savanna Waters; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews she also considered her grandchildren, four of which she helped raise, Lora Moxley, Brandon Moxley, Ginger Moxley and Paul Powers; and several close friends, including Greg, Jessica, and Alyssa Hall and Denise Grooms.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 13th, 2025, at 1:00 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastor Gaynor Ridgdill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from noon until just prior to the service.
