Mr. Charles Benjamin “Chuck” Thompson, age 72, of Lyons, died Monday, July 29, 2024, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in LaGrange, Texas and grew up in Anderson, South Carolina before moving to Toombs County in 1978. He was a 1969 graduate of T. L. Hanna High School and later a 1974 graduate of University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. He was a hunting preserve owner for many years; was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, and the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Vidalia. In his spare time, he enjoyed training and raising Labrador Retrievers, trout fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved collecting gemstones and hunting waterfowl. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert G. Thompson and Elizabeth Reynolds Thompson.
His family includes his wife of forty-nine years, Beverly Bowen Thompson of Lyons; his daughter, Beth Thompson of Washington, D.C.; his brother, Buck Thompson and wife Bridgett of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister, Mary Thompson of Canton; cousin, Carroll Edwards and husband Randy of Little River, South Carolina; and several beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Saturday morning, August 3rd at Mt. Moriah Cemetery beginning at 10:00 until just prior to the service. The graveside memorial service will follow at 10:30. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
