Mr. Charles James “C.J.” Spinn, age 45, of Vidalia, died Monday, May 1, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Wheeler County. He was a native of Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated high school there. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served four years. He began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1999 and worked with the Telfair, Montgomery, and Georgia State Prison, and was currently at Wilcox State Prison serving as Deputy Warden. He had recently qualified to become a warden, which was his lifelong passion. C.J. was Lutheran by faith and he enjoyed going to the gym and sports, especially hockey and baseball. He collected baseball cards and had a love for LEGOs, which came from his father, who worked at LEGO in Connecticut. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steven John Spinn and Doreen Lee Conery Spinn; and sister, Courtney Jean Spinn.
His family includes the love of his life and best friend, his wife, Rachel Hilton Spinn of Vidalia; six children, Cody Charles Spinn and wife Kaci, Caden Spinn, Jaleigh Spinn, Chandler Ford, Christian Ford and Chase Ford, all of Vidalia; one grandson, Hudson Charles Spinn; one nephew, Christian Spinn of Delaware; his godmother, Debra Conery of Massachusetts; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be Thursday, May 4th, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Chaplain Calvin Wilt and Pastor Gaynor Ridgdill officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
