Mr. Charles Thomas Gray age 69, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021, at his home with his wife and family by his side. He was born in Lyons to the late Mr. George Thomas “GT” and Betty Sue Groover Gray on August 1, 1951. He would proudly serve an extensive career with the United States Navy as an underwater welder and would continue his work in that field after his departure from the military. He was stationed in Scotland for ten years and was last stationed at Mayport Base in Jacksonville before retiring. He later had stints at the Jacksonville Shipyards, as well as with Atlantic Marine. Charles’ hobbies included fishing, bowling, and going to the dog track. He loved to spend time with family and was very involved with his kids’ sports teams and games as they grew up. When his grandchildren were born, they became his world, and he loved every minute that he had to spend with them. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Gray.
Survivors include his beloved wife of thirty years,Vickie Gray of Jacksonville; children, Billy Wright and wife Kristen of Fleming Island, Florida, Lacy Wright of Jacksonville, and Eric Gray of Mississippi; grandchildren, Makenzie and Caroline; brother, James Gray and wife Mary Ann of Lyons; sister-in-law: Cindy Gray of Oak Park; mother-in-law, Gloria Kraft of Jacksonville; as well as other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Dannie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.
