Mrs. Cathern “Cat” Brown, age 79, of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her home in Glenwood, following an extended illness. She was a native of Wheeler County, living in Glenwood all of her life, and she was among the last graduates of Glenwood High School, Class of 1963. She was an in-home childcare provider for fifty years, and she was affectingly known to so many as “Aunt Cat” and “Nana”. She was Baptist by faith. She enjoyed flowers, working in yard, raking pine straw and was a “bucket farmer”. She enjoyed shopping, antiquing, traveling, especially to the mountains and going to Pigeon Forge. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown; parents Thurman Willis “Speck” Foskey and Varnell Sims Foskey; one sister, Laura Winnell Padgett; and two brothers, Elmas Thurman “E.T’ Foskey and Robert Sims Foskey.
Her family includes two children, Vearna Brown Keene and husband Rusty, and Joe “Buddy” Brown, Jr., all of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Emily Catherine Hartley and husband Joey, Ana Keene, all of Glenwood, Brandon Keene and wife Brandi of Uvalda, and Brooke Keene Sharpe of Dublin; six great-grandchildren, Layton Johnson, Paisley Hartley, Mallory Sharpe, Emberlyn Keene, Adley Joe Hartley, and Ridge Keene; one sister, Betty Jean “B.J” Foskey Yawn and husband Ray of Glenwood; one brother, Billy E. Foskey and wife Charlotte of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with her nephew, Pastor William Pope and Pastor Kevin Hammons officiating. Burial will follow at Edge Memorial Gardens in Glenwood.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:30 until just prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Matthew Johnson, Lynn Pope, Wesley Yawn, Darron Brown, David Mathis, and Brandon Keene.
