Mrs. Carolyn M. Thompson, age 87, of Lyons, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Meadows Park Health & Rehab in Vidalia, following an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living in Lyons most of her life and was a 1955 graduate of Toombs Central School. She and her late husband were owners of Reliable Cleaners in Lyons, Four Seasons Cleaners in Vidalia, Vidalia Cleaners, Claxton Cleaners, and Reidsville Cleaners. She worked part-time at the Ohoopee Regional Library in Lyons and as a kindergarten paraprofessional at Lyons Elementary. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyons where she taught adult and children’s Sunday school. She enjoyed reading, the outdoors, and volunteering with the Lyons Parade. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell E. Thompson; parents, Lamar Meadows and Nannie Olivene Cochran Meadows; and a sister, Edra Clara Meadows Rauton.
Her family includes two children, Rhonda Thompson Benton and husband Bill of Lyons, and Rick Thompson of Cleveland, Georgia; one sister, Marijon Meadows McDaniel of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, Bradley Benton and wife Carly of Dublin, Loree Anne Paradise and husband Scott of Marietta, Bryan Benton and wife Kaitlyn of Lyons, and Darby Winne and husband Jack of Newnan; seven great-grandchildren, Brody, Bella, Bailor, Bear, Kellyanne, Lettie, and Walker, two great-grandchildren to be born soon, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Tuesday morning, August 27th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall with Pastor Bradley Benton and Reverend Trent Akins officiating. Burial will follow at South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Roddy Clifton, Brian Fitzgerald, Chris Garrett, Trey Mosley, Joe Thomas, and Michael Thomas.
