Mrs. Carolyn Durden Kennedy, age 71, of Montgomery County died Monday, February 17, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Soperton where she was born on February 19, 1948, and lived in Vidalia most of her life and in Montgomery County since 1984. She retired from Altamaha Bank and Trust after twenty-six years. She was a member of the Vidalia Church of God.
Carolyn was a true “girly girl” with a red lipstick signature and great attention to beautiful clothes, make-up, hair and jewelry. At the same time, she was tenacious and feisty with a phenomenal will to live that cheated death numerous times. Everyone marveled at her strength and resiliency.
Carolyn was always generous with her friendship and her “I love you”‘s. She had an extraordinary warmth that drew people to her, and she was special to family and friends alike. She previously enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and shopping. And she loved Elvis.
Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her parents, George Leon Durden and Emma Lou Beasley Durden; three sisters, Wilma Durden Hall, Eloise Durden Drawdy, and Barbara Durden Edge; and two brothers, Howard Durden and Danny Durden.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Daniel Grady “Danny” Kennedy of Montgomery County; a devoted son Bill Kennedy and wife Gina of Swainsboro; two grandsons Luke Kennedy and wife Sarah of Watkinsville and Landon Kennedy of Orlando, Florida; one great-grandson Grady Brooks Kennedy of Watkinsville; beloved twin sister Marilyn Durden Coleman of Vidalia, sister Martha Durden Toler of Soperton; one brother Lanny Durden and wife Debra of Wrightsville and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 and will assemble at the residence of a niece Sonia Coleman, 1501 North Cheney Drive, Vidalia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation. P.O. Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
