Mrs. Carolyn Ann Hammond Burns, age 73, of the Long Pond Community in Montgomery County, died Thursday, December 18, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro after a brief illness. She was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, as a child moved to Soperton where she grew up and has lived in Long Pond since 1972. She worked at Ailey Manufacturing and retired from Savannah Luggage in 2018. She was Methodist by faith; and she enjoyed yard sales, and fishing and camping at Lake Oconee.
She is preceded in death by her father, Anthony Labruzza and Myrtle Scott Campbell Decker, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, David K. Burns of Long Pond; one son, Duren Burns and wife Jackie of the Center Community; two step-grandchildren, Kevin Phillips of Toombs Central and Kelly Phillips Maybin and husband Michael of Eatonton; two step-great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Phillips and Sawyer Phillips; one step-great-great-grandson, Wyatt Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, at 3:00 in Gibbs Family Cemetery in Long Pond with Pastor Ricky Dyal officiating.
