Mr. James “Bobby” Carroll, age 88, of Vidalia, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at his home, following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, a 1954 graduate of Vidalia High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Early in his life, he was co-owner and operator of Carroll Brothers Construction for several years and later retired from Ladson Investments after many years. He was Baptist by faith, and he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, cooking, gardening, taking care of his rescue dog, Oscar, and helping his son-in-law, John, with remodeling projects. He is preceded in death by his parents, Berry C. Carroll and Delma Lorraine Moore Carroll; four sisters, Virginia Carroll Black, Sara Carroll Ford, Doris Carroll Pearson, and Hazel Carroll Roberts; one brother, Randall Carroll; and long-time friend, Ben Roy McLendon.
His family includes three daughters, Marylou Carroll Henry and husband Eddie of Higgston, Shirley Carroll Somers and husband John, and Anessa Carroll Kirkley and husband Vince, all of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Melissa Stephens, Rachel Marshall and husband Matt, Savanna Fowler and husband Tim, Eddie Henry and wife Abby, Jes Somers, and Cory Kirkley and wife Casey; six great-grandchildren, Evan Stephens, Gray Stephens, Mila Marshall, Mason Marshall, Casen Kirkley, and Christian Kirkley; one great-granddaughter to be born in January; one brother, Dick Carroll and wife Evelyn; one sister, Shirley Carroll Thompson, all of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Friday morning, August 16th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne McDaniel officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
