Mrs. Bobbie Jean Meeks McCullough, age 90, of the Ohoopee Community, died Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was born in Swainsboro, as a child moving to Ft. Myers, Florida for a few years, and she lived in Ohoopee most of her life. She was a teacher’s aide for two years at Lyons High School and was a paraprofessional at Lyons Elementary for eleven years. She decided she wanted to become a teacher, so she attended Brewton-Parker College and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education, teaching three different grades at Lyons Elementary and retired after more than thirty years. She was an active farmer’s wife and was involved in all aspects of their farm. She was a member of Georgia Retired Teachers Association and the Toombs County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Ohoopee Baptist Church, taught Sunday school, and helped build the present church. She enjoyed her flowers, cooking, she was a caregiver, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband of seventy-three years, Sam McCullough; parents, Sam A. Meeks and Bernice Irene Tapley Meeks; and brother, Sam Meeks, precede her in death.
Her family includes two children, Martha McCullough Hart and husband Joey, and Johnny McCullough and Wife Laura, all of Ohoopee; seven grandchildren, Brad Hart and wife Tracy of Lyons, Justin Hart and wife Rebecca of Pembroke, Garren McCullough of Blackshear, Chris Cox and wife Brittany of Augusta, Kourtnie Farrow and husband Casey of Lyons, Brandon Cox of Lyons, and Victoria Beasley and husband Daniel of Vidalia ; four great-grandchildren, Clay, Cason, Caleb, and Easton Hart; one sister, Mildred Meeks Bozeman and husband Ray of Moultrie; one sister-in-law, Mary Ballard of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Monday afternoon, January 27th, 2025, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Johnny McCullough and Pastor Daniel Beasley officiating. Burial will follow at Ohoopee Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
