Mrs. Bettye W. George was born on March 16, 1940, to the late Sidney Lando Wellington and Jessie Elizabeth Hester Wellington in Russellville, Alabama and died on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia following an extended illness.
She was a 1960 graduate of Russellville High School and Tennessee Technical School in Decatur, Alabama, earning a degree in Nursing. She married her late husband and they lived in several places in the southeast before making Vidalia her home in 1976. She was a passionate health care provider, working as a licensed practical nurse at Meadows Memorial and The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia, Memorial Health in Savannah, Emanuel County Medical Center in Swainsboro, and Vidalia Medical Associates. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School class. She enjoyed cross-stitching, crafting, and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Teddy R. George; daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Wilson; and three siblings, Orvil Dean Wellington, Nettie J. Wellington Harmon, and Pernie Mae Wellington.
She is survived by one daughter, Sonya L. Giles and husband Lee of Lyons; son-in-law, Buck Wilson of Oak Park; two sisters, Laura Wellington Pounders of Russellville, Alabama and Ruth Wellington Rowsey of Counce, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Amber Wilson, Trey Wilson, Austin Giles, and Teddy Giles; one great-grandson, Eason Hammock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held Thursday morning, February 19th, 2026, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
