Betty Ruth Young, age 74, of Vidalia, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.
Born October 3, 1951, Betty was the youngest sibling of eleven children of Virgil McCoy (1906-1972) and Sally Ryles McCoy (1907-1996). She was married to Joe Young and Betty moved to Reedsburg, Wisconsin in 2000, to be closer to her son and his family. While there, Betty lived her life to the fullest, enjoying time with her family. You would often see her around town with her beloved dog, Jake. She eventually moved back to Georgia in 2023. She will be remembered for her spicy personality and huge heart.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by eight siblings, PFC Grady L. McCoy, Charles Eugene McCoy, Susan Qunell “Susie” McCoy Mock, Ray McCoy, Colon McCoy, Bobby McCoy, Edward McCoy, and Willie McCoy.
She is survived by two children, Sally Leann McCoy of Bloomingdale, Georgia, and James Virgil McCoy and wife Tonia of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; one sister, Reba Gill and husband Joe of Inverness, Florida; one brother, Ralph McCoy and wife Jo of Richmond Hill, Georgia; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:00 at the home of Chris McCoy, 200 Sweet Gum Place, Vidalia, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the suggests memorial contributions to (SOAPS) Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society, PO Box 210, Vidalia, GA 30475.
