Betty Jo Wilson Scott, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Southern Manor in Metter Georgia after a long illness of dementia. She was born on December 6, 1935, in Toombs County, Georgia to the late Herman Carroll Wilson and Gussie Rachel Thompson Wilson. She married Samuel Allen Scott in 1951. He was the love of her life and the center of her universe for 34 years before his death in 1984. One sister, Bobbie June Wilson Harris, Callahan, Florida, and two brothers, Charles Harold Wilson, Antioch, California and Hubert Carroll Wilson, Quitman, Georgia also predeceased her.
Betty was a Christian and a lifelong member of East Gordon Street Baptist Church in Lyons, Georgia and served as a church hostess for several years. She retired from Toombs County School System as a lunchroom worker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking cakes for celebrations like birthdays and weddings. Her father owned Wilson‘s Cafe in Lyons. There, she worked side-by-side with her parents preparing meals for many years. At heart, she was a homemaker who loved her family and friends dearly. She always had food prepared and ready to be shared.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Bobbie Jean Scott Blaxton of Lyons; three sons, Samuel Allen Scott Jr. of Lyons, Donnie Ray Scott and wife Cynthia of Kents Store, Virginia and Charles Loran Scott and wife Jane of Bluffton, South Carolina. She was also blessed with nine-grandchildren, Allen Riley Scott and wife Sabrina of Alston, Adam Christopher Scott and wife Joannie of Lyons, George Samuel Blaxton of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Matthew Lawton Scott and wife Nicole of Bumpass, Virginia, Kathryn Rachel Scott Brent and husband Travis of Palmyra, Virginia, Benjamin Donlee Scott of Mineral, Virginia, Zachary Loran Scott, Caralynn Jane Scott and Carleigh Jo Scott, all of Bluffton, South Carolina. She was also blessed with nine-great grandchildren, Rileigh Gayle Scott, Allen Cole Scott, Elijah James Scott, Ezra Christopher Scott, Isaac Greer Scott, all of Georgia and Colton Ray Scott, Jason Michael Scott, Dakota Reid Scott, and Asa Lynn Brent, all of Virginia. Betty’s last remaining sister, Frances Joanne Wilson Warren, lives in Normantown, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, April 5, 2025, at the East Gordon Street Baptist Church in Lyons from 10:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 11:00. Reverend Mitch Bellflower and Pastor Glenn Russell will officiate. Burial will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
