Lyons,
Mrs. Betty Anderson Mayo, age 87, of the Ohoopee Community, died Friday, April 13, 2018, in the Oaks Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, and lived in the Ohoopee Community all of her life. She was a 1948 graduate of Lyons High School, earned an Associate Degree from Brewton-Parker College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Tift College. She retired after twenty years from teaching second grade at Lyons Elementary School, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Mayo; parents, Grover Cleveland Anderson and Nora McLean Anderson; and six siblings, Ila Mae Jarriel, G.C. “Hunk” Anderson, Vesta Powell, Ruth Howell, Billy Anderson and Gary Anderson.
Mrs. Mayo is survived by four daughters, Dawn Mayo of Ohoopee, Debarah Mayo Palmer and husband Ronald of Lyons, DeLainie Mayo Collins and husband Terry of Ohoopee, and Dee Mayo Morgan and husband Stanley of Lyons; three sisters, Viola McKenzie of Atlanta, Violet McKenzie of Swainsboro, and Glenda Tarver of Atlanta; two sisters-in-law, Pat Anderson of Atlanta, and Joyce Anderson of Brunswick; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend George Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
