Mrs. Betty Davis Massey, age 84, of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at her home after a brief illness. She was a native of Montgomery County and lived in Mt. Vernon all of her life. She was a 1958 graduate of Montgomery County High School, and she earned an Associate degree from Brewton-Parker College. She worked in banking for many years at Ailey Bank, Mt. Vernon Bank, and Altamaha Bank. Later, she worked as an insurance agent, but her greatest love outside of family, was her floral work and design at her florist, Pure Country Florist in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, H. Norwood Massey; a grandson, Dylan Massey; parents, Austin N. Davis and Matra Lee Gillis Davis; and three siblings, Effie Davis Richardson, Austin E. Davis, and Kathleen “Tat” Davis Fennell.
Her family includes two children, Mel Massey and wife Annette of Mt. Vernon, and Patty Massey Nipper of Vidalia and her former husband Harold; seven grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, July 12th, 2025, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Arnie Raj officiating. A private family burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
