Mrs. Betty Dean Sharpe Lockley, age 88, of the Normantown Community, died Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Toombs County and was a 1955 honor graduate of Vidalia High School. She lived in Vidalia most of her life before moving to Normantown thirty years ago. She worked as church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church, now Calvary on Aimwell, with Jerry Powell at DuPont Paint, and as secretary with Alexander Brothers Heating & Air. She attended Bible Baptist Church in Vidalia, and she enjoyed cooking, baking, watching game shows, blue grass music, puzzles, and Scrabble.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Julian Lee Lockley; daughter-in-law, Diane Clark Lockley; parents, Lee Sharpe and Marie Lewis Sharpe; two brothers, Carl Sharpe and Robert Sharpe; and three sisters, Helen Sharpe Dykes, Louella Sharpe Spears, and Vera Sharpe Dykes.
Mrs. Lockley is survived by three children, Leah Lockley Fant and husband Barry of Kathleen, John Lee Lockley, Sr. and Jeffrey Myles Lockley, both of Normantown; four grandchildren, Stephen Fant and wife Katey of Byron, Carly Fant Bell and husband Jesse of LaGrange, John Lee Lockley, Jr. of Boone, North Carolina, and Myles Lockley and wife Cortney of Normantown; four great-grandchildren, Caroline Fant, Sadie Bell, Adley Lockley, and Ridge Lockley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10:00 until 11:30.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Rick Davis officiating.
