Mrs. Betty Jean King, age 80, of Vidalia, died Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was born in Treutlen County on November 7, 1945, to the late Joseph Benjamin Johnson and Nan Lou Ricks Johnson. She lived in Treutlen County until moving to Vidalia in 1953, living there and Montgomery County most of her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed going to yard sales. She had been a resident at Meadows Park & Rehab where she enjoyed eating with friends, going to church with Pastor Fred, and the weekly butterbean auction and Bingo. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She loved telling stories about her life and the old days, and she loved her grand dogs, Bentley and Lucy.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lamar King; two grandchildren, Ashley and Eric Johnson; three brothers, Larry Johnson, Johnny Johnson, and Benny Johnson; and two nephews, Zane Tomlin and Ross Tomlin.
She is survived by four children, JoAnn Clements of South Thompson, Teressa Taylor and husband Toby of Alma, Karen Kilgore and husband David of South Thompson, and Robin Johnson and wife Michelle of Oak Park; nine grandchildren, Joseph Collins, Brittany Barnes and husband Paul, Benji Kilgore and wife Allie, Savanna Grimes and husband Josh, Aaron Giles and wife Savanna, Tiffani Hall Barber and husband Tyler, Tyler Taylor and wife Sayde, Randi Murray and husband Jordan, and Kaleb Johnson and Rebecca; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ellie Barnes, Wesley Barnes, Ridge Kilgore, Marren Kilgore, Riley Grimes, Payton Grimes, Nate Giles, Araina Giles, Pearce Barber, Banks Barber, Ansley Johnson, Cuyler Johnson, and Avery Johnson and Brewer to be born in November; five sisters, JoAnn Toole of Johnson Corner, Peggy Tomlin of Brunswick, Sarah Nell Blount Whitaker of Vidalia, Lillian Barefoot and husband Drake of Phenix City, Alabama, and Margie Beasley and husband Craig of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Braddy Cemetery in Kibbee.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
